Grand Canyon of Concrete: Tempo Bay Takes Form 

Literal in terms of both appearance and in construction, Bay Lake’s massive A Frame was constructed from the outside in, with it’s frame serving as the resorts’s architectural signature, as well as how the building was actually pieced together.  

Conceptualized as a unit, each room was individually made, furnished, and lifted into place on the shell of the A Frame. 

The last few pictures show the actual make up and furnishings for the room, which came pre wired, and only needed to be “installed” into the building to work. 

This was a massive selling point from US Steel, the company that helped subsidize The Contemporary’s construction, as evidenced by the PR shots of executives with models of the rooms. 

Perhaps the name change from “Tempo Bay” to “Contemporary” was to reflect all this, as, it was a last minute change, instigated by none other than Roy Disney himself.
